Since its legalization in 2015, the issue of doctor-assisted suicide continues to remain a contentious issue in Canada. Recently, the Ontario divisional court ruled that, while the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario violated the charter rights of those physicians who are against doctor-assisted suicide by requiring them to make an effective referral, it was nevertheless an acceptable violation in the interest of the patient.
