Biblical Contradictions Part 1

“The Bible is the word of God.” So say Christians. One implication of this is that the Bible cannot contradict itself. But what do we do with the differences between, say, the four Gospels? Why are Jesus’ genealogies different between Matthew and Luke? What were Jesus’ last words on the cross? Many skeptics quickly cry, “Contradiction!” Is that what we actually have? Wes and Steve sat down to hash out some alleged Bible contradictions in this two-part episode of the AC Podcast.

  1. Excellent!
I was already aware of the explanations of the seeming discrepancy between the lineage accounts, but hadn’t heard such a great explanation of the sequence of events leading up to Jesus’ last words. I reasoned the proximity of the witnesses and the reason John’s account had the words he used. Also, that the volume at which Jesus spoke the words is enlightening; “Jesus cried out in a loud voice” twice, the first utterance Mathew (Levi) heard, the second he heard but doesn’t or couldn’t tell what was spoken, then John simply says “he (Jesus) said, ‘It is finished.” Not that He cried out.
